Kodachrome Basin State Park | 1 Minute History
1 Photo, 1 History, 1 Minute of your time, a series.
Here’s the quick history of Kodachrome Basin State Park’s name. (Maybe out fellow photo-nerds can take a guess or two)
“In 1948, the National Geographic Society explored this area and named it Kodachrome Flat, inspired by Kodak’s vibrant color film known for its brilliant hues. This stunning landscape made the perfect tribute to the film’s vivid quality.
In 1962, it became a state park and was initially called Chimney Rock State Park to avoid any legal issues with Kodak. However, with Kodak’s permission, the park was renamed Kodachrome Basin a few years later. Now, it proudly carries the name that reflects its colorful beauty.”
Julia did the research/fact checking on this for me, and I’m glad she did because I incorrectly assumed that the Kodachrome film somehow got its name from this…
