I really liked your point about “the new camera in a year will be simply your camera” , and in someways the the reverse can be true. I have a few cameras at the moment, and while there are newer versions of them, it’s hard for me to justify upgrading to the “new one” because…well…I like mine.

For example, I have a Leica CL, and I really enjoy the Leica files, so I start to think “maybe I should upgrade to the Leica Q2 or SL2S, but even though those cameras are technically much better (and more expensive ) than my CL, I don’t truly want them. I like my mini-Leica because I’ve been using it. I know it.

Lastly, another piece of advice I was given once about choosing/collecting cameras and gear this year was to only keep two cameras at any given time, and only two lenses for each camera. If you buy a new camera, an old one has to go, and same with lenses. It keeps you focused in on perfecting your craft with your tools you have, instead of chasing new specs or filling up shelf space.
