This will be a brief photo journal with some history of the area provided at the end.

A few weeks ago (forgive the delay, I got sick and lost some focus for a quick minute) I took a short drive north from Bend, Oregon up to a “sorta” ghost town called Ashwood.

I say “sorta” a ghost town because people still live there. There appears to be very small but local school and many small farms are still around. Don’t worry the ghost town vibe is still there. Check out some of the photos of the town below:

Left: The faded paint and broken windows hint at stories long forgotten. You can imagine this structure once being the heart of a small, thriving community, now quietly resting under the heavy clouds
Left: This desolate storefront in Ashwood, Oregon, looks like it belongs to a different era. The sepia tones, combined with the stormy sky rolling in over the distant hills, create a sense of time standing still. The hand-painted “Water” sign adds a touch of small-town charm, while the building’s weathered facade reflects years of neglect. | Taken with Rioch GRiii (last photo is with Canon R5)

The drive to Ashood is pretty standard Central Oregon, passing through Redmond and Madras on the way before branching north-east into the highlands (I guess that’s what you could call them).

I love this area from a landscape and rural aesthetic point of view, but the amenities are few and far between. You should probably fill up with gas in Madras if…
